CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
- To generate debate and ideas on how to further develop a culture of giving within the LGBT community in Canada and the United States.
- To identify potential donors concerned with LGBT issues and advocacy.
- To increase awareness and broaden financial support by individuals, foundations and corporations to meet the LGBT community’s needs.
- To demonstrate to the wider community LGBT leadership in philanthropy.
- To educate individuals about leadership and legacy giving in the LGBT community and act as an information resource for potential supporters of LGBT issues in Canada and the United States.
- To raise awareness of the multitude of LGBT organizations that are achieving results in wide variety of LGBT community needs such as youth programming, housing, education, arts and culture, advocacy and healthcare.
- To explore possible interest creating formal structures to advance research and growth in LGBT philanthropy and links with similar organizations in Canada, the United States and abroad.
FORMAT & TIMING
A three-day conference event starting on Thursday, April 7, 2011 with a reception at the 519 Church Street Community Centre includes workshops, panel discussions, reception, luncheon and keynote speaker(s). Receptions and luncheons will be held to welcome attendees and provide social networking opportunities.
TARGET AUDIENCES
We are targeting several very specific audiences for this conference. We expect 200 to 250 people to attend the conference, including many of our respective donors. Our primary audiences are: Leading LGBT Volunteers and Community Members, Prospects and Donors to LGBT issues and causes, Lawyers and the Legal Profession, Corporate and Foundation Representatives, LGBT Fundraisers and other staff at LGBT Organizations locally, provincially and nationally. Attendees represent a total of more than 30 organizations with over 50,000 annual patrons, participants, members, volunteers, staff and donors.

ABOUT THE LGBT GIVING NETWORK
The LGBT Giving Network, a network of organizations that are working together to engage and cultivate lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and allied donors to help secure leadership gifts and long-term financial support to build stronger LGBT communities in Canada and the United States.
The LGBT Giving Network was formed to address the need for improved engagement between non-profit charities, donors and business interested in the LGBT communities and issues. Its founding members represent a cross-section of the diverse LGBT communities. LGBT philanthropy is increasing in Canada and the United States and the purpose of this conference is to build the collective understanding of financial implications of philanthropy, nurture the relationship between donors and charities and to provide a point of contact for businesses.
